VIA TEMPORA is a mobile app for location-aware audio storytelling. A synthetic voice, Abeona, tells the history of the territories and places actually driven through on a car journey.

VIA TEMPORA is not a navigation app and is no substitute for a GPS. It gives no driving instruction and points to no route to follow.

The app is designed to be listened to, never watched: nothing on screen needs touching while you drive, and the text of a story appears only once you have stopped.

It remains your responsibility to obey road traffic law at all times. Handling a hand-held phone at the wheel is an offence. Put your phone on a mount, set up whatever needs setting up before you leave, and never let listening take your attention off the road.

Stories describe what is around you; they never ask you to look anywhere other than ahead.

The app works without an account. Creating one lets you find your purchases, your settings and the history of places you have heard on another phone.

You are responsible for access to your mailbox, which is what signs you in. You can delete your account at any time from within the app.

Stories are written from files of primary sources, or of two secondary sources that agree, checked statement by statement, then read by a human before publication.

Despite these precautions a mistake remains possible. Report it from the app: a fact that does not hold up is corrected or withdrawn. Content is provided for information and cultural interest, with no warranty of completeness.

The stories are embedded in the app. Online services — account, synchronisation, route calculation — depend on third parties and may be temporarily unavailable.

The service changes: territories, features and stories are added, and some may be altered or withdrawn. Notable changes are announced on the What’s new page.

• Extracting, reproducing or redistributing the stories outside the app.
• Circumventing usage limits or the purchase mechanism.
• Disrupting the operation of the service or the integrity of its data.
• Using the service for unlawful purposes.

We take reasonable steps to keep the service working and worth using. We cannot be held liable for damage arising from a failure to obey road traffic law, from use contrary to these terms, or from unavailability attributable to a third party or to the network.

Nothing in these terms limits the rights the law affords consumers, in particular the statutory warranties of conformity and against hidden defects.

These terms are governed by French law. Should a dispute arise, an amicable solution will be sought before any court action.
